MTLMRKT Website
MTLMRKT was an activist design project aiming to reinforce the relationship between consumers and artisans within Montreal’s local consumer market. This project was multifunctional and multifaceted, using video, web and social media to educate the public and encourage the use of equitable markets.
The MTLMRKT website was designed to directly connect consumers to local Montreal artists. Each artist participating in the MTLMRKT website has a custom webpage which highlights their work and identity. Users can use the website’s filters to sort results via product type, or creator category. Contact info and social media links allow potential customers to directly contact creators.

As part of the website advertising campaign, a series of artisanal goods were created for use in guerilla marketing. These products were packaged to blend in with other items on the shelf, and were placed in various big box stores. These items included scannable tags, and a subtle link to the MTLMRKT website and the original artist’s portfolio.
The goal of this advertising campaign was to redirect shoppers from big box stores, to local artisan storefronts. It allowed customers who would otherwise not be exposed to artisan goods, to find them in the wild.
This video was created to document some of the guerilla advertising process. The video was shared with MTLMRKT’s social media following.
